The pulse-pounding action of The God of High School captured audiences during the summer of 2020, but fans have been sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for any news on the show’s second season since then. Sadly, Crunchyroll has not officially confirmed the renewal of the series, leaving its future in doubt. Will Jin Mori and his friends return to the screen with more exhilarating battles? Let’s take a look at what we know so far about The God of High School season 2.
Based on the South Korean manhwa by Yongje Park, The God of High School anime has earned several nominations at the 5th Crunchyroll Anime Awards, including Best Animation and Best Fight Scene.
The anime adaptation of “GOHS” was produced by Studio MAPPA. It was directed by South Korean director Sunghoo Park, with Kiyoko Yoshimura composing the series and Manabu Akita designing the characters.
The anime follows Jin Mori, a 17-year-old South Korean high school student and martial artist who participates in a martial arts tournament called “God of High School.” The competition is sponsored by a shady corporation that promises to grant any wish to the winner without any inquiries.
The participants in the contest use various martial arts techniques and “charyeok,” divine power borrowed from gods, demons, and mythical beings. During the contest, Jin Mori befriends two talented fighters, Han Daewi and Yu Mira. Together, they face numerous formidable opponents and epic challenges along the way.
The God Of High School Season 2: Release Date
Despite its popularity, the second season of The God of High School has not yet been announced. MAPPA Studio hasn’t provided any official updates regarding the series’ future since the first season concluded in September 2020. Additionally, the official Twitter account of the show has been inactive as of March 2021. Therefore, it seems unlikely that season 2 will happen in the near future.
What Can We Expect From The God of High School Season 2?
The God of High School manhwa currently has more than 550 chapters, and the anime’s first season covered 112 chapters in 13 episodes. This means that there is sufficient source material to produce at least three more seasons.
If the second season happens, it will likely adapt the Jin Taejin arc, which begins in chapter 113 of the webtoon. This arc explores the backstory of Jin Mori’s adoptive grandfather, Jin Taejin, as he is dispatched to North Korea to investigate a mysterious energy reading suspected of being a nuclear weapon.
However, as he approaches the spot, he finds a fearsome blue gorilla-like creature instead of a nuclear weapon. After an intense battle, the gorilla loses but hands over a crystal to Taejin that contains Jin Mori.
