About Toilet-bound Hanako-kun
Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by AidaIro. It has been serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly GFantasy magazine since June 2014 and collected into 20 volumes as of August 2023.
The story of the anime is set at Kamome Academy, a school full of rumors and mysteries about the supernatural. One of these mysteries is Hanako-san, a ghost who haunts the girls’ bathroom and grants any wish to whoever summons her, but at a price. Nene Yashiro, the protagonist, is a high schooler who desires to get closer to her crush. Hoping to achieve her goal, she summons Hanako-san.
However, Nene is surprised to find out that Hanako is actually a boy. Despite this, he agrees to help Nene with her love problem but advises her to try more natural ways first. Unfortunately, after all her efforts fail, she resorts to using a dangerous mermaid curse. This curse turns her into a fish, but Hanako breaks the curse and saves her. However, in doing so, he becomes forever bound to Nene.
